Support the Ocean Sampling Day - RUN for the Ocean
To support the Ocean Sampling Day (OSD) the Micro B3 consortium is partnering with the multimedia company mediomix to initiate a crowdfunding project. The campaign will start on October 1st and end at the “UNESCO World Science Day” on November 10th 2013. To raise awareness for this event and to assure that this campaign becomes a success, we would like to team up for some Marathon’s and “Run for the Ocean”.
Why is it so important to raise awareness?
The unseen marine microbes account for more than 90% of the ocean biomass, however, the majority and its genetic potential remain largely undiscovered. The Ocean Sampling Day (OSD), as part of the Micro B3 project, has the potential to intensively study this unseen but fascinating marine microbial world.
The crowdfunding campaign intents to stimulate the dialogue between scientists and citizens, and the “Run for the Ocean” project will raise the awareness for this campaign. Designed as a local running event we hope to attract many different groups of people and by wearing OSD-Shirts, we have a simple but easy opportunity to initiate communication and understanding. Moreover distribution of flyers and stickers at the event as well as press releases are planned to support the outreach of OSD/Micro B3 and ocean literacy worldwide.
“Run for the Ocean” - Team Bremen:
On 6th of October a (Half-)Marathon takes place in Bremen and I (Anna Klindworth from the OSD Core Team Bremen) would like to run the Half Marathon as a first step to raise the awareness for OSD. It would be great if I don’t have to do this alone! Therefore I am looking for some people who are willing to join the “Run for the Ocean” Team in Bremen. Don’t worry; you are not forced to run a full marathon. Anything from 10 km to Marathon is fine. Micro B3 Leader Frank Oliver Glöckner and mediomix will be around to take some picture and also prepare a short press release.
“Run for the Ocean” - Team International:
You don’t have to run for OSD in Bremen. Any running event from 10 km to Marathon in the time period of the crowdfunding campaign is fine. Just to give you some examples: Oxford (UK), Glasgow (UK) or Chicago (USA). There is even a running event in Marseille (France), which takes place the weekend before the CIESM conference. If you are planning to participate in Oxford or Marseille, the chances are high that members of the OSD Core Team will be around to wave the OSD flag. It would be great if you could send us some pictures or a short video from your run for the Micro B3/OSD website and social media (Blog, Twitter and Facebook). This helps us to raise the awareness for OSD and the crowdfunding campaign.
How to participate:
If you are interested in joining the “Run for the Ocean” Team, please send an email to:
osd-contact<at>microb3.eu
First 10 participants who will send us a copy of their booking confirmation (for the running event) will get a free “Run for the Ocean” running-shirt sponsored by the company Ribocon GmbH Bremen. First come first serve! Please note that sending your booking confirmation is mandatory for getting the free shirt.
We are counting on you!
